abstract
A stochastic streamflow model was developed for application to reservoir design, operation and management. The peak discharge-duration joint distribution was used to derive the probability distribution of the associated flood volumes. The distribution of inter-arrival times of flood peaks was found using cross-entropy with fractile constraints. A risk methodology for the real-time operation of multipurpose reservoirs was proposed on this basis. (D.W.T.)
