Derivation of a new variable instantaneous unit hydrograph Academic Article

abstract

• A new variable instantaneous unit hydrograph (NVIUH) was derived by employing a second-order representation of the convolution integral and a nonlinear storage-discharge relation. This derivation removed a conceptual inconsistency in Ding's variable instantaneous unit hydrograph (DVIUH), and led to an analytical expression for second-order kernel. An alternative procedure for derivation of DVIUH was also formulated. The NVIUH was verified on two watersheds in China, and was found to be superior to both Nash's instantaneous unit hydrograph (NIUH) and DVIUH. 1986.
