abstract
The study described develops statistical relationships between distribution parameters of annual rainfall and those of annual runoff. Three processes are involved: the input process (mean annual rainfall excess), the transformation process and the output process (mean annual runoff). The input is assumed to be random with known statistical parameters. The transformation of rainfall-excess into runoff is characterized by a cascade of linear reservoirs. With these assumptions equations are derived expressing some statistical parameters of the output in terms of those of the input and the length of the carryover.
