abstract
With respect to design of water quality monitoring networks, the entropy principle can be effectively used to develop design criteria on the basis of quantitatively expressed information expectations and information availability. The study presented focuses on the applicability of the entropy method in network assessment procedures in the case of a water quality network in a Turkish river basin. The results are discussed with respect to three basic design criteria: sampling points, sampling frequencies and sampling duration.
