abstract
Viewing the runoff phenomenon as it is, this study allows spatial variability in the kinematic wave friction relationship parameter and develops a general formulation of the kinematic wave theory. This concept results in a completely distributed approach and avoids the necessity of utilizing a complex geometric configuration in the representation of watershed geometry. Furthermore, this approach will reduce the complexity of modeling, and will greatly save the computational time and effort. The usefulness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by its application to modeling surface runoff from a natural watershed.
