COUPLED RUNOFF - CHLORIDE MODEL FOR URBAN AREAS. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Organic matter, suspended solids and toxic material are perhaps the more commonly recognized pollutants. Although one of the major inorganic anions in sewage, analysis of chloride in urban runoff is much less common. Chloride is an important pollutant, all the more so because of its nondegradable nature. This study attempts to develop a mathematical model for prediction of chloride in urban runoff. The chloride model is coupled with a simple urban runoff prediction model based on the unit hydrograph theory. This coupled model is then applied to an urban watershed and its results are compared with observations made on this watershed.
