abstract
Under certain simplifying assumptions surface runoff can be described by a quasi-linear, first order partial differential equation of hyperbolic type. The surface runoff problem evolves under different circumstances into cauchy problem, and free boundary problem. This paper deals with the solution of these two types of problems. Conditions, leading to the explicit analytical solutions of these problems, and their fluid mechanic implications are pointed out.
