STOCHASTIC STREAM FLOW ANALYSIS FOR HYDROGRAPH CONTROLLED WASTE RELEASE. Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A risk based procedure for the design of hydrograph controlled release sewage lagoons is derived. The procedure is based on a stochastic analysis of streamflow events above a given threshold level. Variables of interest include the time intervals between such flow events and the durations and volumes of these events. A stochastic model based on representing the streamflow mechanism as a compound Poisson counting process is derived and tested on various Louisiana watersheds. This model is shown to adequately represent the stochastic structure of flow events on these streams. Several design procedures based on a combination of maximum time spans and minimum flow duration and volume are discussed.
