abstract
The average tidal energy dissipation was calculated for a large number of cases by numerical simulation. The results were plotted and the relationships of tidal energy with macroscopic features of the physical system were investigated. Emphasis was placed on semi diurnal tidal components propagating through channels of finite length. The theory, methodology and applications are briefly presented. It was concluded that there is an exponential relation between tidal energy dissipation per unit mass and Chezy's coefficient of friction and that energy dissipation per unit mass is proportional to the cube power of the tidal Reynolds number.
