Evaluation of the AMC-dependent SCS-CN-based models using large data of small watersheds Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Using a large set of data of 138 small watersheds (0.17 ha area 83.37 ha) from U.S.A., this paper specifically evaluates the antecedent moisture condition (AMC) - dependent rainfall-runoff models which are based on the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) method (SCS, 1956). The study reveals that a modified version of the Mishra and Singh (MS) (2002a) model performs better than the existing SCS-CN method. Furthermore, the MS model is also advantageous in that it obviates sudden jumps in the curve number variation with AMC, which is an unreasonable and undesirable feature of the SCS-CN model.
