Modeling LID practices in the coastal zones for optimal development designs Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Stormwater runoff is the leading source of water quality impairment in the US due to increasing urbanization converting pervious areas to impervious areas. Coastal zones off urban areas are especially affected by such pollution because "Urban Oceans" are the final repositories of a variety of pollutants. Low impact development (LID) stormwater management is one alternative to solve the problem. Several LID designs scenarios at suburban scale are developed and modeled to evaluate the effects of each or combination of LID practices. The results will be analyzed and recommendations for LID policy at development scale will be developed for future use by Coastal zone cities. Data from field measurements of the performance of LID practices implemented in the Dallas (Locations with similar soil of Texas coastal zones) and Houston areas will be used in the modeling study. In this presentation the modeling setup as well as initial results will be shared.
