Scalar measurements for combustion model validation Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Experimental research activities in turbulent combustion within the DOE Basic Energy Sciences program at Sandia's Combustion Research Facility are outline, with emphasis on laser-based multiscalar measurements and the contributions they have made toward the advancement and validation of models for turbulent nonpremixed and partially premixed flames. An overview is given of TNF Workshop series, which provides a framework for international collaborative research related to experimental validation of models for low-speed turbulent combustion. Multiscalar point measurements, which have been an important driver for recent model validation studies, are described. Experimental capabilities of the new Turbulent Combustion Laboratory at Sandia are highlighted, and examples of new results on scalar dissipation and the fine-scale structure of turbulent jet flames are presented.
