This paper presents a numerical investigation into the three-dimensional, compressible, turbulent flow around a swirl vane, as well as the effects of vane design on seal inlet swirl. Computations were carried out using an in-house Reynolds-averaged NavierStokes solver with a Shear Stress Transport turbulence model. The effects of vane count, stagger angle, chord length, and thickness on seal inlet swirl were investigated. Finally, the results are used to provide recommendations on swirl vane design improvement.
