abstract
An experimental investigation of the flow fields with sonic air injection into a hypersonic free stream was performed. Air was injected through a diamond-shaped injector at 10 27.5, 45, 90, and 135 into a Mach 5.0 (Re/m = 5.5l07) crossflow. A 90 circular injector was tested for comparison purposes. The experimental techniques include surface oil flow visualization, Mie-Scattering flow visualization, pressure sensitive paint, particle image velocimetry, and a five hole mean flow probe. Measurements include surface oil flow visualization, planar velocity contours, surface pressure distributions, and cross section contours of mean Mach number and Pitot pressures. The data in this paper provide a complete characterization of the hypersonic jet interaction mean and surface flow properties. 2001 by the authors.
