abstract
The propagation of femtosecond infrared (IR) pulses exhibiting a single transverse mode within a well-defined geometry is systematically studied. Focus is on precise measurements of the length of the self-guided filaments and its inner energy, the power spectrum and the density of electrons liberated in the trail of the pulse. Data are compared in detail with results from a numerical code.
