abstract
Nonlinear propagation of sub-picosecond ultraviolet (UV) laser pulses in atmosphere was investigated. UV laser pulses were found to create long plasma filaments. Interferometry showed an important reshaping and shortening of pulse filaments. Numerical simulations of the UV laser beam propagation using a 3D code with axial symmetry were performed. The outcome of the simulations for initial conditions close to the experiments ones validate the results.
