abstract
This paper presents a method for integrating maintenance and safety aspects in the operability analysis of process systems. A stochastic process model representation is employed accounting for random process variations, equipment, failures and/or malfunctions, external unexpected events as well as different maintenance policies. The effects of events which may result in undesirable or even hazardous conditions is evaluated via a combined flexibility-reliability-safety analysis. This results in the systematic identification and ranking of critical parts of the system; implications for preventive/corrective maintenance and design optimization are discussed. 1995.
