Efficient Scheduling of Complex Multipurpose Chemical Batch Processes Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • A new STN-based mathematical formulation, considering flexible production recipes, is proposed for the well-known Westenberger-Kallrath multipurpose batch process. In order to reduce the computational burden of the proposed mathematical model, a number of tightening constraints are introduced. Additionally, we apply bigger time intervals in contrast with the typical 1-h partition of the time horizon so as to further simplify the model size. A comparison have been made with other literature methods for several problem instances of the multipurpose batch process considered, and demonstrate that the proposed solution approach provides excellent solutions and clearly overwhelms previous approaches. 2012 Elsevier B.V.
