abstract
The rates of vibrational energy decay for the S2 excited state of azulene have been measured in both monatomic and polyatomic matrix media at 4 K. We find that the existence of molecular modes in the polyatomic matrix does not substantially affect the rate of energy decay within the S2 vibrational manifold of azulene. Temperature effects on vibrational energy decay rates have also been measured and the implications of the experimental details evaluated in terms of existing theoretical models. 1987.
