CHEMICAL APPLICATIONS OF PICOSECOND SPECTROSCOPY Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The experimental investigations described here demonstrate the higher level of specificity and completeness, which picosecond emission and absorption spectroscopy permits in the understanding of mechanistic photochemistry. The constantly improving technology will allow a period of photochemical mechanistic revelation comparable to that of another era of great chemical progress, the golden age of physical organic chemistry that shed much light on the mechanistic aspects and general understanding of organic chemistry. The versatility of the synchronously pumped dye laser system described above with the addition of picosecond Raman spectroscopy, with all of its structural information, enhances the repertoire of picosecond studies. The ultimate in the study of chemical reactions, the direct observation of bond cleavage and bond formation, is indeed a reality!. 1983, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
