abstract
In the article, we utilize an experimental design to examine individual responses to a series of hypothetical, political scandals involving public officials; including adultery and drug use. We find that while public responses to political scandal are, in part, conditioned by the officeholder's sex, they are also contingent on the nature of the scandal, and individual acceptance (or rejection) of gender stereotypes. 2002 Elsevier Science Inc.
