abstract

  • The numerical treatment of periodically fully developed flow in channels with conducting blockages is presented. The significance of the second source term (K)/x is illustrated in the energy equation by studying heat transfer in a two-dimensional rectangular channel with surface-mounted blocks on the bottom wall. The SIMPLER algorithm was employed to solve the periodically fully developed channel problem. The periodically developed flow solution and the developing flow solution from the channel entrance were compared. Calculations were made for different values of Re, K, and geometric parameters. It is found that the inclusion of the second source term results in the prediction of the correct temperature field. In general, any parameter that would increase (K)/x will strengthen the second source term effect. 1991 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc. All rights reserved.
