abstract
A method is proposed for solving the joint setup cost inventory problem with constrained warehouse space availability. The basic assumptions for the system under consideration are instantaneous replenishment of stock and no backorders. The distributions of the individual demand occurrences are unknown and are not restricted to any specific form; however, an estimate of the total planning horizon demand for each product is required. Two problems which were generated from actual industrial data and a third problem, a Poisson demand model with a queueing description of the system's operation, are analysed.
