A THEORY FOR ANALYSIS OF THERMOPLASTIC MATERIALS Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical model for predicting the behavior of elasticplastic materials subjected to cyclic mechanical and thermal loading. The considerable literature in this area gives ample evidence of its significance. Solutions are sought in the areas of laser technology, nuclear reactor design, and turbine analysis, to name but a few. There are four sections contained in this paper: (1) the formulation of a special purpose constitutive law; (2) review of a variational principle for use with the constitutive law; (3) a discussion of the application of the model to a computer code; and (4) a comparison of several experiments to results obtained in the theoretical model. 1981.
