Magnetorheological dampers for semi-active control of seismically excited nonlinear structures Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and the Sliding Mode Control (SMC) algorithms for the magnetic field in the magnetorheological (MR) damper were discussed. The algorithms were formulated based on full-state feedback (FSF) and static output feedback (SOF) with or without an observer. The MR damper was modeled by a Bouc-Wen hysteretic element in parallel with a linear viscous damper. The results show that the MR dampers are effective in reducing both the displacement and acceleration responses.
