abstract
To achieve reliable traffic delivery, wireless free space optical(FSO) links may be complemented by radio frequency(RF) links. We consider a hybrid FSO and RF link, which processes high-priority traffic by first send- ing it over the main (FSO) link, and by rerouting it to the backup link whenever the main link fails to send it. In addition, low-priority traffic is processed by the backup link when it processes no high-priority traffic. Given the parameters of high-priority traffic (Poisson in our case) we approximate the availability of the backup link for low-priority traffic and show how to provide probabilistic quality-of-service guarantees.
