abstract
This paper describes a numerical model of a steady-state plume in linear stratification driven by a buoyant dispersed phase, such as bubbles or droplets. The model was developed specifically to simulate CO2 sequestration plumes. It extends the hybrid double-plume model of Asaeda & Imberger (1993) by incorporating droplet dynamics (dissolution, hydrate formation, and phase changes), by introducing a self-regulating detrainment criterion, and by allowing multiple intrusions to overlap. The model is calibrated to data from the literature and is applied to study the sensitivity of a CO2 plume to ambient stratification.
