abstract

• The Author(s) 2016. This article provides a short history of the continuing issues that modern technical communication and technical communication faculty face. It discusses the first texts and many of the early pedagogical battles: Technical communication faculty faced literature faculty who saw the practical as the work of the devil, despite the fact that technical writing courses remained in high demand. Many recent books presented here discuss the problems of a culture steadily declining in educational quality and students who cannot write.
