abstract
A stereoscopic particle image velocimetry measurement of the flow generated by the passage of a single air-bubble rising in stagnant water, in a circular pipe is presented. Three-dimensional velocity fields within the measurement zone were obtained. The flow motion of the liquid in front of the bubble was investigated. Ensemble-averaged instantaneous velocities for a specific bubble path were calculated and interpolated to obtain mean three-dimensional velocity fields. The three-dimensional particle image technique has demonstrated the capability to study the large-scale structure of this type of flows.
