abstract
A whole-volume, three-dimensional particle image velocimetry measurement technique is used to study the transient structure of the wake generated by the passage of a single air bubble rising in stagnant water, in a circular pipe. The wake effect upon the flow pattern within the measurement zone is investigated. The liquid flow motion during the bubble existence within and after departure from the test volume was observed during the whole measurement time of 266.7 10-3 s. The three-dimensional particle image technique has demonstrated the ability to study the large-scale wake structure.
