abstract
This work presented the development of an experimental methodology for obtaining the complex geometry inside a packed bed. The technique makes use of MIR, LIF and 3D reconstruction imaging techniques in order to obtain the position of each pebble in a section of a pebble bed reactor. The obtained geometry may be use to obtain a computational mesh that can be input into a CFD code. In addition, the obtained 3D geometry allows the calculation of the porosity distribution in the measured section. The use of a "measured" accurate geometry can help in the development of a CFD benchmark and the further research into packed bed core designs.
