abstract
Users and manufacturers of transformers are nowadays capitalizing the core losses while considering the castings. Therefore, a software package which enables an engineer to predict quickly the approximate core loss in transformer of any rating and geometry will be very useful. The use of Finite Element Methods for transformer design and analysis has been proven as a very powerful tool over recent years. This paper describes a numerical solution to use a 2D Finite element method (FEM) to accurately calculate the flux distribution and total core losses in single phase transformer. It also presents the localized flux density and hot spots points in the core. Experimental results obtained from the experimental test bed verify accuracy of the proposed numerical core loss calculation method. 2006 IEEE.
