Five-phase interior permanent magnet motor for hybrid electric vehicle application Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Five-phase interior permanent magnet motors are very good candidates for hybrid electric vehicle applications. High torque pulsation is the major disadvantage of most IPM motor configurations. Choosing proper number of stator slots as well as winding distribution and increasing number of phases are among the possible solutions for reducing torque pulsation. In this paper, five-phase interior permanent magnet motor with fractional-slot stator is studied. It is shown that despite other IPM motors; the proposed five-phase IPM motor with fractional slot has a very low torque pulsation. The mathematical model of five phase interior permanent magnet motor is given. Also it is shown that the MMF of the five-phase motor can remain unchanged by applying proper control algorithm in case of loss of up to two phases. A prototype four pole, IPM motor with 15 stator slots has been built and is used for experimental verification. 2005 IEEE.
