Parameter estimation of induction motors - A review and status report Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The induction motor (IM) is the most widely used motor for high performance drive applications. The reason is that it is robust and can be used at higher speeds than DC motors available for industrial applications. Owing to the very large-scale implementation of the IM in industrial drive systems, the effect of the parameters on the control scheme has been the subject of much research. Since the motor parameters change considerably with temperature, frequency and saturation, over time they can greatly affect the performance of the drive system. This paper attempts to provide a synopsis of the major techniques used for the parameter estimation, while also illustrating the wide applications by providing a summary of techniques that are drawn from other branches of engineering. The main techniques that have been covered are spectral analysis of the currents and voltages, use of observers and models and the estimation using non-linear modeling of IM.
