Founding clones of low chilling fresh market peach germplasm developed in the USA and Brazil Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The three longest running low-chill peach/nectarine breeding programs (Florida, Pelotas, and Sao Paulo) have 10 major low-chill founding clones which comprise from 35% to 69% of their genetic background. All of the programs share one source of low chill adaptation used in the early California programs ('Peento') and one from the Florida program ('Okinawa'). The Brazilian programs added 6 local varieties into the genetic background of these materials. The genetic relationship among the ten clones is not known and studies need to be done to clarify the diversity of this germplasm.
