Design and implementation of a feature-based automated process planning (FBAPP) system Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Feature-based process planning has been regarded as a key for the integration of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). Features are the information carriers between design and manufacturing. In this study, manufacturing features are extracted by a graphical comparison of a finished part with a blank. The feature recognition is performed using programs written in C and CLIPS expert system. Process plans are generated based on the recognized feature information and production knowledge. The developed system is integrated with the I-DEAS software (a MCAE product of SDRC). © 1994.
