  • A planar shock wave interacting transiently with a 2D splitter plate geometry was investigated numerically over a parameter space defined by the incident shock strength (MS) and the duct height ratio (A2/A1). Eight time-accurate, inviscid simulations were performed, which provided full-field property maps and quantitative measurements of wave strengths. In particular, the flow induction characteristics of shock waves were thoroughly analyzed: quantitatively by the velocity profiles and mass flux, and qualitatively by the flow structures and conditions necessary to create flow induction. Results show that upstream flow induction does not occur for practical time scales and is strongly interrelated with the flow structures.
