abstract
In this paper, combined source-channel coding for a power and bandwidth constrained channel is studied, with application to progressive image transmission. For a given power constrained, and bandwidth constrained Gaussian communication channel, we consider the optimum coded modulated scheme among a predetermined set of signaling constellations when the performance is measured by end-to-end average distortion. This scheme particularly fits progressive source coding in conjunction with unequal error protection.
