The Electromagnetic Field in a 1-D Lossy Medium Based on a Maxwell Equation Propagator

The electromagnetic field in 1-D lossy medium based on a Maxwell equation propagator was discussed. The exponential was converted to a standard matrix using the resolvent matrix method. It was found that the purpose of the propagator was to transition the electric and magnetic fields from an initial to a final distribution in space over the time period τ. Analysis shows in the limit as σ→0, the result was reduced to the D'Alembert solution for coupled equations in a homogeneous lossless medium.
