abstract
The study was designed to investigate the effects of personal characteristics of residents and their cultural background on satisfaction with the immediate outdoor environments, defined as private outside space, of their dwellings. It was related to only Afro-Americans, Anglo-Americans, and Hispanic-Americans (referred to as Blacks, Whites, and Hispanics respectively hereafter). A sample of 198 households were randomly selected from residential communities on Bryan-College Station, Texas. Relevant data for the study was collected through face-to-face interview. Findings of the study suggested that private outside space satisfaction is related to personal characteristics and cultural background variables.
