Analyses and Experiments of Suppression of Control Reversal Using a Wing Section with Multiple Control Surfaces Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Aeroelastic phenomena have been studied for many years and their effects on flexible structures are well documented. In recent years, attention has been given to the active control of roll reversal, which is the loss of control surface maneuvering loads due to the flexibility of the primary structure. Herein, the authors describe studies of aeroelastic behavior through experiments and supporting analyses of a wing section with full span leading edge and trailing edge control surfaces undergoing reversal-type behavior. The leading-edge, trailing-edge configuration permits several advantages. For example, control strategies are examined in which multiple control surfaces provide guarantees on control capabilities for the aeroelastic system. The presence of the leading edge control surface permits analytical and experimental investigations of methods to suppress performancelimiting roll reversal. © 2003 by the Authors.
