abstract

  • The events of 9/11 altered the sense of security within the United States. In its aftermath, the recently formed U.S. Department of Homeland Security listed as one of its top priorities the enhanced protection of its borders, with an expanded focus towards apprehending terrorists and weapons of mass destruction. Properties located along the U.S.-Mexico border are positioned at the geographical forefront of this objective and are exposed to many unique and complex issues. The intent of this research is to explore the impact of border enforcement and issues related to illegal immigration on property values and development along the Texas-Mexico border, post 9/11.
