abstract
The generation of surface acoustic wave (SAW) pulses in Si single crystal caused by high energy femtosecond laser pulses was analyzed. It was found that the generation is efficient at a free silicon surface too. The analysis showed that in the case of free silicon surfaces, the shape of the SAW pulses corresponds to the thermoelastic mechanism despite the laser ablation caused.
