abstract
In this paper, we address two important issues: resource reservation and flow control, for video transmissions in a loss-free and timely delivery way for VOD systems. For the first issue, we proposes a semi-static resource reservation scheme, which attempts to efficiently utilize resources, and maximize the number of clients being concurrently serviced. For the second issue, we propose the server-initiated flow control scheme, in which the traffic flow is controlled by the server alone using historical video information, thus no feedback messages from its downstream switches are needed. Our approach is evaluated under a wide range of parameters through extensive simulations driven by trace data from various MPEG video streams.
