A review of leisure participation models based on the level of discourse taxonomy Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • A taxonomy based on the level of discourse concept provided the basis for cataloging the leisure participation models that appear in the field's two major journals. Eighteen models were reviewed, and 16 (89 percent) produced results that were consistent with those anticipated based on the taxonomy. The level of discourse concept also reconciled apparent contradictions within the literature. Both the level of discourse concept and the findings from the review of the leisure participation literature suggested directions for future research. An illustrative variable inventory presents guidelines for selecting independent and dependent variables for leisure participation models. 1985 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
