abstract

  • In this paper, a new approach for channel estimation method is proposed for the third generation (3G) Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) communication systems. Estimating the fading channel is a crucial part of digital receivers since the decoded data depend on the channel estimation output. For channel estimates using time multiplexed pilot data, we propose a new algorithm called Iterative Multi-slot Averaged Linear Interpolation (IMALI). This method is presented and analyzed by means of computer simulations under multipath Rayleigh fading channel and compared with those of other channel estimation methods. IMALI scheme shows improvement in channel estimation accuracy and BER performance, especially in high Doppler frequency condition. Channel estimation based on the time multiplexed pilot data is a preferable scheme to be employed when the adaptive antenna is deployed at Base Station (BS). BER performance of channel estimation methods using time multiplexed pilot data are analyzed and compared to ideal channel estimation BER performance. Simulation results demonstrated a performance improvement by using IMALI at vehicular speed environment exceeding 200 km/h.
