abstract

  • The operators on L p = L p [ 0 , 1 ] L_p=L_p[0,1] , 1 p > 1leq p>infty , which are not commutators are those of the form I + S lambda I + S , where 0 lambda
    eq 0         and S S belongs to the largest ideal in L ( L p ) mathcal {L}(L_p) . The proof involves new structural results for operators on L p L_p which are of independent interest.
