abstract
The paper investigates the wave loads and wave interaction effects on two identical, rectangular barges in side-by-side configuration. The wave amplifications around the barges are computed to second order, and regions of intense amplification are identified. The sensitivity of the results to wave heading and period is shown to be particularly strong for the sum frequency, second order waves, for which rather spectacular diffraction effects take place. The numerical results are supplementet with corresponding ones for a single barge. The possible implications of the observed phenomena for more "practical" LNG offloading systems are discussed at some length.
