Some of the specialized equipment and engineering analysis capability being deployed in the Ocean Drilling Program's exploration of deep oceanic crustal plates is described. The case of a 20,000 feet drill strng was analyzed for a series of design wave conditions and random sea spectra. Plans for future research and drill string analyses are presented.
