Dispersion equations for an elastic isotropic fluid-solid bilayer are derived. Numerical results are presented for a water-aluminum bilayer. There are points in the dispersion diagram where two branches (one quasi-symmetric, the other quasi-antisymmetric) come very close but do not cross. The mode shapes in the vicinity of this point are examined in detail revealing a very interesting phenomenon: the mode shape evolves continuously from quasi-symmetric to quasi-antisymmetric along one branch, and from quasi-antisymmetric to quasi-symmetric along the other. 1995.
